Life Insurance
Life insurance in Malaysia: protect what matters most.
A sum paid if you die — and, on many plans, if you suffer total and permanent disability — so daily life, debts, and a child’s education are not left unfunded.
Why households buy it
Life insurance is there so the people who rely on your income can keep going. It can cover daily living, outstanding debts, and future costs such as education.
The right amount is not a slogan. It starts from who depends on you, for how long, and what you already have in EPF, savings, and existing policies.
Structures, in plain language
These are different contracts. A familiar brand name does not make them interchangeable.
- Term life: protection for a set number of years. If the insured event does not happen in that period, there is usually no cash value. It is often the most direct way to buy a large sum for a known window — a mortgage, young children, a business loan.
- Whole of life: cover that is designed to stay in force for life, as long as premiums are paid on the terms of the contract. Premiums are structured differently from a short term plan.
- Investment-linked and savings-type plans: protection combined with units or a savings element. Illustrated returns are not a promise unless the contract guarantees them. Early surrender can return less than the premiums paid.
- Family takaful: a Shariah-compliant arrangement with a similar protection purpose. The contract, surplus, and tabarru’ structure are not the same as a conventional policy.
Nomination is part of the plan
Who receives the money is as important as the sum assured. In Malaysia a life policy or family takaful certificate can be nominated, and a trust nomination and a beneficiary nomination do not behave the same way — especially if the people you want to protect are minors.
We read the nomination with you before anything is signed. A nomination is not a substitute for a will or a wasiat.
